Setting up a Visual Studio 2015 Preview virtual machine
We have created a virtual hard drive (VHD) that can be used to simply create a virtual machine (VM) containing everything you need to build, deploy, and debug to an IoT device. Using this VHD saves you the trouble of installing Visual Studio and IoT's templates, etc. To use this VHD, follow these instructions:
- Make a local copy of this VHD: \\webnas\devxbuilds\Drops\Hackathon\IOT_GPIO_WinMain.9890.0.141117-1600.VSClient_1.22318.00.vhd
- Create a new VM in Hyper-V using the above VHD with at least 2 GB of memory. For help creating and configuring a VM, see the advanced help
- Start the VM and, when prompted, set up Windows with your desired user account.
- At this point, you are ready to develop apps. Notice that the Athens Watcher application automatically starts when you log on. It can be used to find availabe Athens devices to deploy apps to.
